Subjects

For new Casbu users, subjects can be somewhat difficult to grasp. It’s helpful to think of subjects as channels of communication: an open channel, or public subject, is available to any of your contacts, while a restricted channel, or private subject, is only available to specified contacts. Who you permit to use these subjects is entirely up to you.

Say, for example, that you are currently working on a team-based project, the Peterson Account. Your first step is to create a subject, such as “Peterson Account.” Because your team has a defined number of people, and it would be irrelevant for anyone outside that team to contact you about the Peterson Account, you’d make the subject private. When the project is complete, simply delete the subject. Now, unless a former team member has another subject open to them, they have no way of contacting you.

This ensures that your communication remains uncluttered, while also sparing you the awkward (and sometimes rude) process of blocking or “ghosting” your contacts.
